Last week (actually the week before March 29th! This draft didn’t publish when it was set to.) I did painting of another kind—my living room*, and it turned out great. Even though it’s hard to wrap my head around the different. But now I’m back to working in my Greatest of These is Love journal—where I’m nearing the end of blank spreads in my journal to work on and inspiration sessions. It’s almost time to move on to the next creative project. (And if you’ve followed my posts for the last 3 months since this was supposed to be posted, you know there’s been plenty of them.)

As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
John 15:9-10
This spread is based on John 15:9-10. Do you see the irony of the timing of finding this neglected post? God indeed has a sense of humor and perfect timing. See Monday’s post, on this same chapter, focusing on verse 11, Abide in His Joy!
I actually followed the presenter’s inspiration pretty closely—for once. 😁 Let’s take a look at all the yummy mixed media layers.
#1—Collaging. Bits of scraps from books, sheet music, and tea dyed papers, adhered with matte gel medium. I didn’t cover the complete page.

#2–Section painting. A wide variety of colors of Distress Paints to paint small sections covering the spread.

#3—Stenciling. White gesso through Tim Holtz’ Roses stencil.

#4—Tracing. Traced a large Heart across both pages of the spread with Black Stabilo All pencil. Had to have a BIG Heart representing Jesus’ Love!

#5—Stamping. Stamped Bo Bunny Rough it Up texture marks with Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide Ink, randomly across the spread.

#6 Outlining. Painted an outline around the whole spread with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink. Used a wet paintbrush to widen and smudge the heart outline. Painted a very wide outline around the heart with watered down white gesso, to make it stand out even more.

#7—More Stenciling. Added stenciled Vines, going back to the verses before these that Jesus is the Vine and we are the branches, where He begins talking about us abiding in Him. Used 2 shades of green Distress Paints and Mini Fronds of Foliage stencil from Dylusions,

#8—Wording. Cut the words Abide in Love from black cardstock, and put them within His big heart. Used 3 different alpha/word dies. ‘Abide’ is Tim Holtz’ Alphanumeric Classic Lower. ‘In’ is Tim Holtz’ Alphanumeric Tiny Type Lower. ‘Love’ is the complete word from Love, Laugh, Smile by Little Yellow Bicycle.

I feel this spread captures the essence of Jesus’ message to us in these verses well. ❤️
*Here’s a pic of my living room painting. Note my super colorful page above. Then note my neutral walls. Which is me? Yes, that’s why the walls are hard for me to adjust to. They were navy.
