Do you have a mission verse for ministry? What motivates or strengthens you to serve others the way you do?
Decades ago, 2 Corinthians 1:4 became that verse for me in mentoring and coaching others. Throughout my life as I’ve gone through hard things, God has sent others to me that needed comfort, hope, wise counsel from His unchanging Word, for me to comfort with the same comfort I’ve received from Him.
He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
2 Corinthians 1:4
For Domestic Abuse Awareness Month this year, I felt drawn to create a page in my She Created a Life She Loves Journal for this verse and my work as a Life Restoration Coach and mentor for Christian women escaping abusive marriages. 6 years ago, I argued with God, “I don’t want a ministry to abused women.” I’d escaped and spent years healing from abuse and betrayal trauma that had been in my own long, destructive marriage, and just wanted to leave that behind. But this verse wouldn’t let me.
That nudge to join Give Her Wings Academy, to be certified as an Abuse Survivor Advocate, just wouldn’t leave me alone. This verse nagged me, “God has comforted and healed you in this area, too. How can you not offer that same comfort, hope, and healing to others who’ve been harmed by domestic abuse?” Through that year long training course, God shifted my heart to become passionate about this calling. And to continue forward in many other abuse and trauma healing professional trainings, from Psalm 82 Initiative and several others, and trauma educated training and coaching certification through WILD Institute.

This mixed media journal page highlights that verse and my passion for this calling and work. *It pictures the connection we forge with one another, as we come alongside others to comfort, support, and strengthen them on their healing journey.
The hymn page collaged in the background is I Sing of the Mighty Power of God. I thought it fitting for this work—God’s mighty healing power, and because creating music itself is a great healer and was very instrumental in my own healing.
The brick wall with roses illustrates God’s work of bringing beauty from ashes. We all go through hard things in life and come up against walls that seem immovable. But God brings us through, working all things for good, and can restore us to a beautiful life.
To finish the page, I wanted to embellish it with softness, my fabric rosette tied right in. 💝
