The angels preached the Gospel—Good News, that God had come to earth to live among us, Emmanuel is here, to preach the gospel to the poor; to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. Emmanuel—God with us is the most Joyous news ever!
But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: “Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord.”
Luke 2:10-11
There is no greater news and there is no greater Joy than Emmanuel Himself—God with us, Jesus the Messiah.
I’m continuing to work in my Exploring Joy journal for #faithjournaljuly2025. This Faith Art page is for Day 4 of this study, on Luke 2:10-11.
The key words I chose out of this passage are the Names used for Jesus in these verses—Savior, Messiah, and Lord. I created a journal card with those names, in their original Greek with their meanings, to include on this page along with the verse card.

I knew I wanted to fill this page with words, good news—and to make it joyously colorful!

This page is on a base of blue paper, with ugly remnants of a page gone wrong. I started by collaging the music of Joy to the World on the page, then gessoed over it to knock the colors and print back just a bit.

Next I ink blended Distress Ink, used for its translucency, in Saltwater Taffy, Mustard Seed and Salvaged Patina, to add color to the page.

To add more words as well as texture, I stenciled texture paste through the gothic German, Script stencil. And Distress Paint splatters in the same colors. I think I went a step too far with more color over the texture paste. But, oopsies are how we learn.

I die cut and stamped my title words, using painted cardstock from my stash in colors that went well and the Theory Alphanumeric dies, and Joy is stamped with Block Upper cling foam stamps. The words are backed on a Bible page of this Luke passage that had been gessoed.

I wanted to include a typewriter, the modern way to scribe until recently. I found this printable, in similar colors, in my stash and turned it into a pocket. Blue ink edging accented my pocket, Joy, and the page edge.
My Luke 2:10-11 and key words journal cards in the pocket finished my page.
