Go Make Disciples

Have you ever had a creative piece that you knew just what it was to be, but it still just wouldn’t come together? This Faith+Art Journal page was inspired by Marjolaine Simard’s Dream page, in Encounters in Color, and I started it back then, in June. It activated much thought, and I knew it wasn’t just going to be a page in an art journal. It has a longer story, of course. (That will likely wait until my memoir.) 😄 It brought so much meditation, it took 6 weeks to finally get it done. Oh, what can be sparked by a simple art page inspiration!

The focus of the inspiration piece was a Door, opening to our Dreams. In my mind, it started with this house with a door. (I hadn’t remembered that the door was so small. But it would work.) 😊 I had the mixed media background, the focal image, the “dream”, and a Bible verse—but it just wouldn’t all come together to be a finished page. “God, I’ve dropped the perfectionism, especially in creating. Why can’t I just glue this page together, and be done?”

One thing I have desired of YHWH, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of YHWH all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of YHWH, and to inquire in His temple. ~ Psalm 27:4

The desire/ dream I was working on journaling

Dreams for the future, tend to be things that those trapped in DV don’t give a lot of thought to. Unless it’s the hopium (false hope) of things changing in the relationship. Most have given up on their dreams. Restoring the ability to dream is one of the things we work toward in Restoration Coaching, or more accurately, “a hope for the future,” because that’s what Jesus gives!

By God’s grace, my primary hopes and dreams haven’t changed through my traumas and healing. I have long held desires that I still hope are physically fulfilled in greater measure in my life here on earth, and spiritual desires I long to see more fruit in, also. So why was actually making this journal page causing so much meditation and such a hold up in the art part, rather than it just being a simple afternoon creative project.

What are your dreams—physical and spiritual desires?
Has something caused you to lose sight of your dreams?

This week, that Faith+Art journal entry shifted. My “Door” became a car trunk. 😲 Not that I have a hidden dream, shut up in a trunk, waiting to be revealed. At least, it’s not hidden to me. But a different “Dream” for this page did emerge, with a car not a house door. It’s a “knowing” that I’ve had, since I was a small child. A “calling” that I’ve known since right after I was saved. A ministry that’s been realized in many ways throughout my life, and changed in its specific presentation in this new season, post-betrayal trauma and divorce, healing and rebuilding.

The car now had meaning. I changed “Dream” to “Believe”. “Go” is in reference to Matthew 28:19-20. “Go make disciples,… teaching them.”

My dream, throughout my adult life, has been to lead others to Jesus and teach them all about Him and Truth. My dream is still for that to expand, for the “harvest is great”. And I love to travel to do it! Oh, and the clouds have “silver linings,” because God works all things together for good. 😊

I still plan to finish a House page, probably with Psalm 27:4. I feel freed up to do that, now that this “Dream” page is finished.
