Do you change your art, long after it’s “done?” Change is inevitable in life. And for me, in my art too.
My art journaling sprint I posted about earlier this week really fizzled out. I did get one more Names of God journal page done (and will share it soon, but not today.)
This week has been full of days of remembrance, (and new days of repairs I don’t care to remember.) I think every day for the past week+ has taken a 180 turn from my plans, into something I had no idea was coming. Change.

Rosh Hashana is about change and remembrance too. It’s the biblical new year—and it’s today. In addition to signifying the changing of the year, it also is about our own changing, turning, and begins 10 days of reflection. I think I began reflecting early, as I thought about the significance of the days this past week, far beyond my own little world. But today is the day to celebrate the biblical New Year. So…

I started my day with traditional apples and honey, to bring in a sweet New Year with prayers for health and happiness, peace and prosperity.
Since the biblical New Year signifies the creation of the world, I was meditating on that, which led to making a small update to my Genesis Chapter 1 Bible Journaling page from several years ago. As I said, changing my art is something I do often. Change. Try to improve. Add a new view to what I’d previously “completed.”
My style itself has changed much over the years, since this page was originally made. Hopefully that change has brought growth. But I don’t need to trash my old art. It was those pages that brought me out of perfectionism. And I celebrate that. But something on this page always bugged me. And, I can and did go back and make small tweaks, that bring a smile to my face.
Right after my apples and mini art this morning, my day—that was planned to be a day of creating—unexpectedly changed. So wasn’t.
Change can be good. In our lives—and our art.
