Growing in love is one of our greatest aspirations, as we seek to become more and more like Jesus, and is evidence of His Spirit’s fruit growing in our lives. We are to “in love, grow in every way into him who is the head — Christ.” And, “I pray this: that your love will keep on growing…”
Since daisies are one of my two favorite flowers, it seemed fitting to add one to this mixed media spread in my Greatest of These is Love journal. I love everything about this page—from the colors to the techniques to the elements I used. Let’s walk through the process and layers.

First layer, half dozen Distress Paints streaked vertically on the spread: Tattered Rose, Aged Mahogany, Salvaged Patina, Frayed Burlap, Antique Linen, Worn Lipstick, Picket Fence.
The next layer was stenciling with Tim Holtz Lattice stencil and Picket Fence Distress Paint.
Then more stenciling and stamping with Ground Espresso Archival Ink—Creative Worship Stamps Script stencil, Bo Bunny Rough it Up burlap and Terrific Textures rings stamps.

Wildflower Stems 1 by Tim Holtz is one of my favorite dies sets—that daisy! I colored the daisy with Distress Watercolor Pencils: Mustard Seed, Worn Lipstick, Walnut Stain, Peeled Paint.
When you don’t have dies or stamps for the words you want, Alphanumeric dies come to the rescue. “Grow in” is cut from Tim Holtz Classic Lower Alphanumeric, and colored with Salvaged Patina Distress Paint.
The SIZZIX graduated Heart die cut was painted with Aged Mahogany Distress Paint. And the Love die cut, from Little Yellow Bicycle word dies, was painted with Tattered Rose Distress Paint.
I added a finishing touch by adding stitching marks around the heart with a black Micron Pen.
