He Endured for Joy

Day 12 — Hebrews 12:2
How can we have joy during trials? By keeping our eyes on Jesus! He’s the Source and Completer of our faith, as well as our example—“He endured the cross for the joy to come,” which was the finished work, our salvation.

…keeping our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:2

This page continues my work* in my Exploring Joy Journal for #faithjournaljuly2025 The Guest Creator for July 11th was Leona’s Designs. Her pocket brought back happy memories of making these origami cup pockets as a child, (used as drinking cups when camping,) and then when I taught my children and other homeschool parents and children to do lap booking and make various pockets including these.

Lap booking was a forerunner (for children) to junk journaling, many decades ago, where we made books (many flip pages from file folders) and used pockets, and flip outs/ups/downs, mini “notebooks” and such to document our school studies—journal what we/they learned, in a colorful interactive way. We had so much fun making them. So I decided to follow Leona’s lead and make one today.

I made my cup pocket oversized (from a 7” square) for today’s page, as I wanted it large enough to hold my verse journal card. My pocket is made of the same floral print that some of my pages and all of my verse cards are made out of. — Fill my cup, Lord!

This is on a dictionary page, that I had done many mixed media layers on the other side of. They’d bled through and were actually pretty in themselves, but I pink washed the page with gesso and Worn Lipstick Distress Paint. Then stenciled small dots in Uncharted Mariner and Blueprint Sketch Distress Paint, the larger circles in the Worn Lipstick Distress Paint (not white washed).

“He endured for joy” is stamped with individual letter stamps that connect together, from Recollections/Michael’s, with Mermaid Lagoon and Picked Raspberry Archival Inks.

*I’ll be going back and adding more of my pages here, as I finish the write ups.

Have you ever made these cup pockets? Done any origami? How will you use them on a journal page? We want to see your creations on our Facebook Freely Whole Creative Community!
