I had no chance to make any Christmas themed projects this year, but an almost New Year’s birthday gave me a chance to use one of my new Tim Holtz winter themed dies. Yippee!
Although it’s been decades since I’ve ice skated, I fell in love with this die when it came out. I patiently waited for it to go on a good sale, and Black Friday didn’t disappoint. But then I needed an occasion to use it—for more than just in my inventory catalog. Card making time!
All those Distress Spray Ink backgrounds I did for my Pray & Play* that turned into Christmas gifts, reminded me of how much I love to play with my sprays. This birthday card background started with Tumbled Glass Distress Spray, and Speckled Egg Oxide splattered on (since I don’t have the spray in that color.)
After a few layers of these, and they were dry, I moved on to Distress Sparkle Texture Paste applied through the Tim Holtz Speckles Stencil onto part of the background. Dried, and then edged the card with Antique Linen Distressed Ink and Speckled Egg Oxide ink.
Next, I die cut the over-sized Snowflake and the Ice Skates, from the Tim Holtz Vault Winter Wishes die set, out of textured card stock and silver metallic card stock. I spread the Snowflake with the Sparkle Texture Paste also.
I edged the Skates with Antique Linen Distressed Ink, then assembled them with Distress Collage Medium, and “laced” them up with a scrap of festive twine I had. I finished them by adding “fur” tops with Distress Snowfall Grit Paste.
After determining positioning, I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment, with an old stamp from Hobby Lobby, and glued all the parts together.
Ground Espresso Archival ink was used to stamp the other sentiment inside the card.
