Retreat

What does a Retreat look like for you? Is it complete R&R time? No schedule. No plans. Just slowing down, resting and relaxing?

Is it reflection time? Spending time in nature? Journaling. Creating. Reading. Pondering your life. Your purpose. Your present. Your future.

Is it renewing time? Getting great teaching for growth? Prayer and support for healing? Connecting with old friends. Making connection with new ones. Iron sharpening iron.

I just returned home from my annual Christian women’s Retreat for—domestic abuse survivors and people helpers that advocate for them, the Called to Peace Ministries Retreat. There, I experience all of the above and more.

And am blessed that they graciously proclaim that this is your retreat, for what you need. There are plenty of sessions to feed your soul and help you grow, but you aren’t pressured to attend them all. There are prayer teams, and counseling teams. An open chapel. Beautiful flower gardens. Rocking chairs on balconies overlooking the mountains. Benches by the lake.

Each year that God provides for me to go, I receive just what I need. Some years I need more rest and downtime. Some years I need more reflection, thinking and planning time. —Rocking chairs on that third floor balcony, overlooking the lake, the mountains, and the cross, at sunset. Creating art by the lake. It doesn’t get any better than that!

All years, I need the connection, support and calling up higher. All years, I love spending time with women from online groups I’ve been in for 10 years. All years, I love meeting new friends. All years, I am blessed by the speakers.

This year 2 mighty SHEROs in the Faith were our plenary speakers. Elyse Fitzpatrick—author, speaker, counselor and one who rightly divides the Word, and Diane Langberg—author, speaker, and pioneer in trauma research and therapy for over 50 years. Our souls were refreshed by the music—and teaching of God’s Word, by Nicole C Mullen. Other speakers encouraged and equipped us—some of them sweet friends who I love reconnecting with face to face each year.

The Worship touched our souls and drew us into the throne room of our Abba. The Hymn Sing evening is always a special treat. Joining our voices with a full chapel of women, singing our praise to our great God—many of them through the great pain they are in the midst of. And a handful of us continuing long after the time ended.

This Retreat is like being on the mountaintop with God. Lying down in beautiful green pastures. Being refreshed from the cool, clear streams of Living Water. I am blessed! And Refreshed!

P.S. If you are part of the demographic this Retreat is for, I encourage you to come next year. April 15-18, 2027. Lake Junaluska, NC.

P.S.S. I was so blessed to get an extra day of R&R after, enjoying the beauty of the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains. Maybe I’ll share on that next. —Because after Retreat I got home and hit the ground running. 😄 Just as it had been right before I left.
