Exaggerated Abuse?

“But don’t women usually lie about abuse?” “It wasn’t that bad.” “He didn’t hit her.” The reality is, she has been minimizing it and covering for him, for probably years or decades. She’s known his treatment of and attitude toward her was wrong, and not that of a loving husband. But was it really abuse?

That’s what abuse does. It gaslights, manipulates, and confuses the victim. She’s had a hard enough time accepting the truth of reality that she is a victim of abuse. She doesn’t need you doubting her too. She’s not lying when she finally gets brave enough to say she’s been living in abuse. #dvawareness #freelywhole #dvrecoverycoach
