My mind is still meditating on and expanding my study on names, (based on my previous Bible Journaling page for the Great Shepherd & His sheep.) Thinking about how God calls me by name. How I know and hear His voice and follow it. To go a step deeper, to the name He gives me.
John tells us, in Revelation 2:17, that overcomers in Christ have a new name, given by God.
“To the one who conquers, I will give … a white stone, and on the stone a new name is inscribed that no one knows except the one who receives it.”
Revelation 2:17
The ability to name things is one of the imago dei traits God gives us. Names have meaning. He names things, according to their characteristics, and humans can name things according to their characteristics. Humans don’t always think about the meaning of a name before naming their children, but those names still have a meaning.
But God… God always names according to meaning. And He has a new name for each of us!
In the Encounters in Colour retreat last month, Casey Turner’s session was titled What’s in a Name? Her meditation was on Jacob, and God changing his name to Israel. This dovetailed perfectly into what I was meditating on about Sheep, Shepherds, and Wolves—and who we listen to, whose voice has our ear—Who calls us by name.
Casey’s session inspired this journal page. As usual, different creative style; different verse.
