Who do you say that I Am? Jesus asks this question (in Matthew 16:15) of His followers. As His followers also, we must answer Who we say He is. God, the Trinity, reveals Who He is by many names—and also many metaphors— throughout His Word. An in-depth study of all the Names of God can greatly deepen your relationship with Him and your worship, as you come to know Him more and more, in spirit and truth.
Over the years I’ve done several such studies, no artwork involved. (But I did create 7 Names of God altered playing cards, as prayer cards, a little over a year ago. My process post is here.)
This month, I participated in a Faith Art Retreat on this topic, with 10 instructors each sharing a different Name of God and their art inspiration that they created from their own study and meditation. I’ve already shared one of my makes from this, on El Roi, the God Who sees. Today’s post is actually the first journal page I made for this course.
El Elyon, the God Most High.
He is high and lifted up. The Sovereign, kings of Kings, Lord of all, above all. There is no way we can begin to depict Him and His glory. (Nor are we to.) But we can study and meditate on His various attributes and show what He means to us in that capacity.
My El Elyon journal page is based on a full page door that opens. I created “stained glass” “pearly gates”, that open to the throne room of God.
As the doors are opened, the veil that has been torn in two, granting me access to this Most High God through Jesus, reveals the high and lifted up throne room of God.
Just the thought of that is so humbling. I can come boldly to the throne of The Most High God, because He is my Abba, Father.
I added a street of gold leading to the throne.
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
