This past weekend I experimented with a new (to me) type of healing art. A combination of Neurographic and Kintsugi.
If you aren’t familiar, Kintsugi is an ancient Japanese practice of repairing broken or cracked pottery, such as loved vases or bowls. Rather than trying to hide the cracks or breaks, they were repaired with gold or silver added over the lacquer glue, highlighting the cracks. Adding value to the piece, through its brokenness.
Neurographica* is an algorithm-based type of brain healing art, where science meets psychology and creativity, utilizing specific steps that rewire and renew brain neurons and synapses. It focuses on its step-by-step process of creating, not necessarily a finished beautiful “art piece.”
In creating a type of Neurographic Kintsugi Art, Kintsugi is brought to the paper. We are looking to heal the broken parts of the person, put back together with value from their brokenness, bringing “Beauty from Ashes!,” through the brain-healing work of Neurographic Art.
A brief overview of the process: We begin with the steps of Neurographic art, setting the theme and scribbling catharsis. We create a circle of safety representing self, then transform our catharsis with neurolines and rounding intersections within the circle, smoothing things out and bringing harmony within. We can then complete and extend neurolines and round intersections outside the circle, to integrate our world outside of self.
We turn the page (over) to complete the renewal, adding beauty by going over the lines and roundings with Gold, starting with the circle and within, then extending out. We don’t add further coloring to this; the Gold repair of the broken, is the focus. We add Field Lines, which represent a connectedness and power that extends through all including self. This represents God, the Creator of all, the power over all the world, as well as us.
Note: *I am not certified in Neurographica (trademarked specifics,) to teach or as a therapist who evaluates others’ pieces. As a Christian, I also don’t agree with its “spirituality” components. I simply have studied it, and practice and share a Neurographic-style of healing art with others.
