Domestic Abuse Awareness — #6

This whole month I will continue this series, (Lord willing, daily,) in bringing about awareness for domestic abuse, particularly in “Christian” circles. Quotes, articles/videos, and thoughts will be shared. Domestic Abuse covers a lot of ground. What I share is mainly in the context of marital abuse–emotional/psychological, financial, sexual, adultery, and abandonment, not just physical beatings. There are many important topics in the domestic abuse realm that I probably won’t cover. Others have that charge. Topics I share on range from living in the destruction, to getting out, to post-divorce abuse, to healing, to support or lack of it for… Continue reading

Domestic Abuse Awareness — #5

Last night Jamie Ivey spoke at the Caring Well: Equipping the Church to Confront the Abuse Crises Conference. She gave great advice for friends of those who have been/ are in abuse. (Conference continues today, free simulcast.) Jamie Ivey — Walking with the Broken Come alongside survivors. Be the friend that sticks with them.  Share your presence for the long haul. Go to war on their behalf. Not “I’ll add you to my prayer list,” but be there for them as long as they need you. Be consistently there to just be with them, before offering any answers. Mourn with… Continue reading

Domestic Abuse Awareness — #4

This week an event is taking place that has the opportunity to make a real difference in the church (Christian community) and the way it responds to abuse, beginning within its own walls and “members.” This is a live conference that began yesterday, and continues today and through tomorrow morning. It is available by free simulcast (link below). Pastors, attorneys, law enforcement officers, psychologists, counselors, abuse advocates, and survivors are among the speakers at: Caring Well: Equipping the Church to Confront the Abuse Crises A free online training course, with videos and articles, etc. is also available for church leaders… Continue reading

A Voice for freely whole

I’m so excited about my first “branded” item. Although freely whole has existed as that for over 3 years, it’s taken a long time to get to this place–of putting it out there, outside of the safe, trusted community of healing. But this week, I go on public display, as me, with freely whole for the first time. Regaining voice is a huge step in healing from destructive abuse, power-over control bent on shutting you down. Survivors must feel trust before they can open up. The untrustworthiness of abusers did not cause her to “have trust issues”, but rather taught… Continue reading

Independence Day!

Freedom! A treasure I am very grateful for. Independence Day is a holiday I value highly. It means much to me. A day to celebrate Freedom. The release from bondage. Standing up against tyranny. I celebrate the freedoms that have been fought for over and over by our country, the greatest, freest country in the world, that everyone clamors to get into; yet, so many are fighting hard to destroy it and its freedoms, even from within. I honor those in militia and military that have served and given their lives, for a season or literally, to purchase our freedoms,… Continue reading

Created to Create

In the beginning, God created… Near the beginning, God gave humankind dominion over the earth–to steward it, and to in His image, bring creativity into it. Creativity is a gift God has given each one of us, in various ways. I believe each of us is to express that in our own lives, in our own ways, to His glory. Although this is not a “craft blog”, don’t be surprised to see creations, and maybe even instructions amongst these pages. In addition to the general enjoyment of creativity by anyone, creativity is also a great healer (as is music). Expressing… Continue reading
