The Word for Today – Yatom

Today leaves a void for many, whether that is physically, emotionally, or spiritually. For some that void is mourned, especially if a good and loved father has died. For others, it’s the unmet longing for their physical dad to be a spiritual dad also, to be counted among the redeemed children of God. For others, the void is emotional, a dad who isn’t there, who isn’t good, who isn’t who he should be; and that can bring a wide range of emotions. Thankful that one is no longer under his abuse or ramifications of his addictions. Happy to be able… Continue reading

Survivor Memories

Much of my own Survivor to Thriver story has only been shared at conferences and in private groups thus far. But God continues to open doors to help bring healing to others, through my story and my training in helping abuse and betrayal survivors, and that is what this website was created to do. So… “that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Corinthians 1:4 It’s interesting to see what comes up in “memories” from the past. (x doesn’t come up directly, as… Continue reading

Creating Creative Habits

Creativity is soul care that is both effective and enjoyable for the brain healing from trauma. But to be effective, it needs to be practiced. And nothing helps practice more than making it a habit. V-Day Blues? Nope!

For many women, who are survivors of DV, Valentine’s Day is a triggering day. This may be your first year alone, or maybe you feel all alone while still in the same house. You may be wondering what you can do on February 14th. Ignore the day? Fat chance. Wallow in your sorrow? Not generally helpful. (If you are at the beginning of your grief, that may be what you choose. Then move on beyond that.) But there are a lot of other options. First, realize that Valentine’s Day is at its roots not about romantic love. Read the real… Continue reading
