The Word for Today – Yatom

Today leaves a void for many, whether that is physically, emotionally, or spiritually. For some that void is mourned, especially if a good and loved father has died. For others, it’s the unmet longing for their physical dad to be a spiritual dad also, to be counted among the redeemed children of God. For others, the void is emotional, a dad who isn’t there, who isn’t good, who isn’t who he should be; and that can bring a wide range of emotions. Thankful that one is no longer under his abuse or ramifications of his addictions. Happy to be able… Continue reading

Cling to Jesus. He will never let you go! He is the Vine, we are the branches. When we abide in Him and Him in us, we will bear the fruit of His Spirit. Without Him we can do nothing. God’s Rainbow—His Promise

After writing yesterday’s article, after the unsettling of reading about all the discord, I needed to seek God’s peace for my soul. His rainbow of promise. The promise that He is with us, that He sees, and He saves. Not the “rainbow” that the world is celebrating. I needed some Soul Care and time with Him. I took to my piano. Opened a hymn book. And began to tickle the ivories. The comforting words of those old traditional, solid theology, hymns filled my heart as I played. My soul was soothed. He, and His Truths, brought peace. I found rest… Continue reading

National Sewing Machine Day

Today, June 13th, is National Sewing Machine Day! If you have on clothes that you didn’t hand stitch together, thank Elias Howe, Isaac Singer, and other sewing machine inventors. If you want a creative, relaxing, productive hobby, try sewing. Especially consider an old treadle machine, if you’re just wanting hobby sewing, rather than becoming a clothing seamstress. If you are a seamstress or creative, or love sewing machines or antiques, take a browse through my collection. And enjoy a little Soul Care! Here are my ladies. Each picture has a description under it. My current fave to use lately is… Continue reading

Gel Printing with Embossing Folders

After I had some non-thinking Fun Play yesterday, my mind turned back on and I moved forward to the next step, and the key to getting prints I really like, that would be usable for pockets and other “pretty page” items. (Of course the others will still be used, for collaging and such.) The obvious answer needed is adding Gesso to the page, to knock the words back a bit, before Gel Printing. This truly proved to be the secret sauce. An added step, requiring dry time, but it produced not just play time but also pretty and highly usable… Continue reading

Fun Play—Gel Print Book Pages

It’s Fun Play Friday! But any day can be a Fun Play Day! On Fun Play Days, I have no project in mind. No thinking through. I just want to create and don’t know what. My mind is most likely going a million miles an hour in several directions, and I just need some Happy Place time for Soul Care. So I grab some supplies, sit down, and see what happens. Like a child sitting down to play “art”, with an assortment of supplies before them, I just grab and do. I think I’ll try this! What would this look… Continue reading

WIP Wednesday—Altered Playing Cards

Since it’s Wednesday, let’s take a look at my desk today, and see my work in progress (WIP). Altered Playing Cards! May was a hot minute, that flew by every which way, with events and day to day happenings. My school semester ended with various performances—our concert/recital (I was awarded Instrumentalist of the Year), we hosted a concert, and we performed for graduation. Day to day life included my son’s car being hit, home repairs and yard work, and dealing with some trauma issues,—and a restful Mother’s Day with visits with several of my children and a yummy dinner. My… Continue reading

Bible Journaling Tutorial – Resurrection

He is Risen! Risen indeed! This one event completely changed history, infinitely more than any other. It also completely changed my life—and perhaps yours too. It is the most important event in history—and in my life. I’ve been enjoying creatively journaling this event in my Bible, every year. I’ve created a different style and look in each one. This year’s Resurrection journaling was created with napkin collaging, stamping, and like my previous 2 entries, images from the Free Printable I designed. Supplies needed for this page are: Bible or Journal page—and Protection mat Napkin Collage Medium & brush/applicator Water brush… Continue reading

Creating Creative Habits

Creativity is soul care that is both effective and enjoyable for the brain healing from trauma. But to be effective, it needs to be practiced. And nothing helps practice more than making it a habit. And nothing creates habits better than doing it daily. Yes, I know what you’re saying, but stick with me. What creative soul care have you been doing recently? Most of my creations this past few weeks have continued to be envelopes, pockets and folios, with some Bible Journaling and tags and cards and jewelry making, and … and, here and there. Ok, I admit it,… Continue reading
